In India every second person love ”Chai ke sath Samosa ya phr Rajam Chawal or kuch nahi to Dal chawal”. As rainy season is around the corner and we all love to eat samosas with tea during this season. The food which we Indians are proud of are not actually from India. Shocked! These foods were brought from some other continents or countries. But Indians have given their desi touch as every state adds its own flavors to these foods.
Here is the list of Indian foods which are not Indian.
Rajma is the famous food in north India. But do you know, it was not originated in India? Rajma or the Kidney beans in Rajma are not Indian. It was first grown in Mexico, carried back to Europe by the Portuguese and then brought to India through the South-Western Coast of India. Indians have added their flavors by adding fried onions, chilies and other spices, which makes it unique and being loved by everyone.
Indians are addicted to chai or tea but chai is not Indian. It was originated in Southwest China, where it was used as a medicinal drink. When Britishers came to know about the Tea and want to cut the China’s monopoly in the tea market, so they brought tea or chai to India. But who knew that chai or tea will become this famous in India that Indian starts there morning from a cup of tea.
Samosa is the favorite snack of every Indian. It is being found in every street of India stuffed with potatoes and a varieties of spices. But Samosas are not originally from India. It came with the Arab invaders in the tenth century. Earlier it was triangular shape dish stuffed with potato or meat and easily found on streets in the Middle east.
The sweet round dough ball which is served as sweet after food. Gulab Jamun was originated in Persia known by Luqmat al-qadi. But later on, it became Gulab jamun, which was derived from the Persian words Gol means flower and ab means water.
The mouth watering dessert which is basically served with rabri is non-Indian food, yes you read it right. Jalebi was originated in the Middle East, where it was known as Zulbia. It was brought by Persian invaders to India. Jalebi is made with different variations in every state. Jaangiri and Imartee are also the versions of jalebi as well.
Dal Chawal/ Dal Bhaat
Dal Chawal is the simplest food all over India with little bit of variations. This popular food is also not Indian at all, as it was actually originated in Nepal but through North India, this food entered India.
