Yoga is an almost 5000 years old tradition and an indispensable part of Indian spiritual history. Yoga has become famous and has had a leg up on the world stage since Prime Minister Narendra Modi observed 21st June, 2014 as the International Yoga Day. Yoga’s popularity is rising across the world and now it has become a multi dollar business in many countries. Before 2014 some organizations had been celebrating World Yoga day but it had no official recognition or a particular day. Mr. Narendra Modi pushed for the annual event to be celebrated worldwide just after coming in power in year 2014. In these four years Modi Ji celebrated it as a major event and was involved with every ladder and section of the country including opposition parties. The United Nations declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day on December 11, 2014 after receiving votes from 191 countries in support of Narendra Modi’s thought to make it an International day. Lets have a glimpse of the celebrations of this mega event from the last four years-

First International Yoga day in year 2015:
The first International Yoga Day function was held on June 21, 2015, at Rajpath in the national capital witnessing Narendra Modi perform Yoga along with over 200 million people across the country and over 37,000 people in Delhi alone. He led the first International yoga Day by defining Yoga as means to train a human mind to begin the new era of peace. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude over the large gathering at Rajpath noting, “Did anyone imagine this Rajpath will become a Yogpath? ”Modi ji who was attacked by the oppositions for “usurping” yoga to “highlight” himself , proved that the Yoga day celebration is only intended to benefit the mankind and spread the message of love across the world. ‘Suryanamaskar’ was not included in the Yoga protocol because some Muslim groups claimed that it was against their religion, this is how it was supported and accepted by all the groups across the country without discrimination.
Second International Yoga day in Year 2016:
The second edition was held in Chandigarh with the participation of over 30,000 people in the presence of the Prime Minister. Over 30,000 people from all ages,10,000 from Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana respectively performed yoga on pink and blue coloured mats during the event. Apart from that 10,000 people also performed yoga at over 100 other locations in Chandigarh itself. On the second International Yoga Day Prime Minister emphasized on overcoming diabetes through Yoga. He said diabetes would be the main focus for this year.
Third International Yoga Day celebration in Lucknow year 2017:
It was the third edition of international yoga day.Mr. Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath performed yoga with 51000 Participants in Lucknow. It was not limited to people gathered on the location but several dignitaries, politicians and bureaucrats also participated from different places of the country. Similarly Netherlands and the US also held programs on 21st June, in the Netherlands, the largest ever Yoga event was held with participation of over 1,000 people. And then after seeing these events across the world, the French embassy in India also announced that it will hold a Yoga and music program on June 21.
Preparation for fourth International Yoga Day in 2018:
All set for 2018 the fourth International Yoga day, over 60,000 people will perform Yoga with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the international Yoga Day 21st June in Dehradun. Foreign Research Institute will be the venue for this mega event.Apart from that Yoga will be performed in every district and grampanchayat and all officials will participate to make it occasion. In US also this event is being celebrated as the fourth anniversary of Yoga International day, Mr. Navtej Sarna is coordinating the event.
