Jamun is one of the most popular fruit especially in India. In English it is know as Black plum or the Java Plum. It is very juicy and sweet in taste. It has several benefits like it is good for skin, stomach and many more things.
Jamun is grown in Indian subtropical and tropical region. It is grown from North’s lower Himalayas to Tamil Nadu. There are several varieties of Java plum or black plum in India varying in size. In North India large dark purple variety of Java plum is grown which is known as ‘’Raja Jamun’’. In Gujarat it is known as ‘’Paras’’. In Varanasi seedless black plum varieties are cultivated.

In India states Jamun is known by different names like Jambu in Sanskrit, Jambura in Gujarati, Nagi, naval pazham in Tamil Nadu along with Jambool, Java Plum and Indian blackberry.
The story of Jamun
According to Indian mythology, Lord Rama lived on the Java plum for 14 years after his exile from Ayodhya. And another story says that lord Krishna’s skin is described like the black plum , this is the reason that in temples of Krishna there is always a java plum tree.
