Art has always been very influential on masses. With time, different forms of arts have emerged and induced the feeling of patriotism and gratitude towards the nation. While literature and cinema is full of such content, we look at a different art form today- Comics. Superheroes are the new talk of the town and celebrating our 72nd Independence Day we take a look at one Indian superhero who is filled with patriotism and is a deshbhakt in true sense. We are talking about Tiranga.
Who Is Tiranga?
Tiranga is a superhero published by Raj Comics. His stories majorly revolve around the theme of patriotism. Tiranga protects Delhi alongside Wonderman Parmanu and Shakti. His alter ego is Abhay Deshpande aka Bharat Deshpande. He is son of a constable who was killed in riots. His life changed thereafter. Abhay studied law and proceeded to join a lawyer as assistant.
Tiranga goes to any extent for the sake of nation and is not afraid to put his body on the line. In a story arc he had to acquire face of a terrorist for an undercover mission. From that time he is living with a face of a terrorist but his dedication towards motherland remains unparalleled.
In his initial issues Tiranga had a tricolor costume. But since a goon placed his foot on Tiranga and disrespected the Indian flag, Tiranga changed his costume to full white with green and saffron Cape. His action packed sequences are well supported by his patriotic shayaris in mid battle and reading his comics will surely send waves through the Indian in you.
Powers Of Tiranga
Host of superheroes possess super powers envied by many. But the only super power of Tiranga is his super patriotism. Many a times only his speeches have moved aside mob and prevented riots. In his initial issues Tiranga possessed a round shield, which he took from a statue of Shivaji. An expert in hand to hand combat, Tiranga’s detective abilities are the best in Raj Comics Universe while his wits are at par with Super Commando Dhruv. As the story of Tiranga progressed, he acquired a new shield, full of gadgets, specifically designed for fighting crime. Writer Nitin Mishra added this well needed upgrade to Tiranga and he has been using it quite well.
In the ongoing mega event of Raj Comics – Sarvanayak, origin of Tiranga was explained in detail. In the comic “Sarvamanthan” it was shown in a flashback how Abhay was recruited and trained by India’s most secret and elite commando force – X squad. During his training, Tiranga became the fighter he is today. In his X squad days he killed people who were threat to the nation. During one such mission he unintentionally killed a child and thus quit the Force under heavy grief. His memory of X squad days was wiped out but the training remained with him.
